Extended Access

Evening & Weekend Appointments

We want to provide the right services at a time which is convenient for you. We’ve listened to feedback from people in our local area, and we are making changes to our out-of-hours appointments to deliver better services for you.

The new way of delivering out-of-hours appointments will give you:

  • Access to more healthcare professionals. This new service will be delivered by professionals including GPs, nurses, Paramedics, and clinical pharmacists.
  • More choice about the type of appointment you want. These include a mixture of in-person face-to-face appointments, and remote appointments like telephone, video, or online appointments.
  • Make it more convenient for you to travel to out-of-hours appointments. These appointments are being planned and delivered locally, so it is likely they will available closer to your home.

From Saturday 1 October 2022, out-of-hours appointments will be available from 07:00 - 08:00 on weekdays & 18:30 to 20:00 on weekdays, and from 09:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays.

Out-of-hours appointments were previously planned by Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) on behalf of many GP practices in a bigger area. From Saturday 1 October 2022, this is now being planned and delivered locally by Primary Care Networks (PCNs)

An out-of-hours appointment might not be at your regular GP surgery. When you book an appointment, you will be told where the appointment will be.

These appointments will not be available as walk-in appointments. You will need to book them in advance.

To book an out-of-hours appointment, you should contact your regular GP practice in the usual way. They will advise you on the appointments which are available, and which healthcare professional is the right person to help you.

If you need medical help now but it's not an emergency, you can also go to 111 online or call 111.

When We Are Closed

When the surgery telephone lines are closed (18:30 to 08:00), call 111 for medical assistance/advice or 999 for an ambulance.

NHS 111 is a 24 hour confidential telephone service.  You can ring for advice if you are feeling ill and are unsure what to do, or for health information on particular conditions such as diabetes and allergies.

Calls to NHS 111 are answered by trained call advisors supported by experienced clinicians, who will use NHS Pathways to determine the skills needed, the time-frame and from the time of day and their location to decide where care can best be provided and despatch a 999 ambulance if necessary.

Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.

Training Afternoons

Please note that the surgery will be closed on the following afternoons from 1pm for mandatory staff training.

  • Tuesday 23rd May 2023
  • Tuesday 13th June 2023
  • Tuesday 11th July 2023
  • Tuesday 8th August 2023
  • Tuesday 12th September 2023
  • Tuesday 10th October 2023
  • Tuesday 14th November 2023

For urgent medical advice please call 111. For immediate medical emergencies (such as chest pain; severe bleeding; shortness of breath) call 999.

NHS 111 Online

111 online is a fast and convenient alternative to the 111 phone service and provides an option for people who want to access 111 digitally.

Your needs will be assessed and you will be given advice about whether you need:

  • Treat yourself at home
  • Go to a Primary Care Centre

If you need face to face medical attention you may be asked to attend a Primary Care Centre.
